Have you seen Wanda Sykes’ show, Tongues Untied, which runs now and
then on Comedy Central?
We love Wanda...and here’s one reason why:
“I wish I could think like a guy, ‘cause guys, they don’t spend all that time thinking. They think about it, thought about it, movin’ on. That’s why they enjoy sports. You ain’t got to think about it. It’s cut and dried. You made the basket or you didn’t. You got the touchdown or you didn’t. And if there’s a question, there’s a referee right there...”
Women, she says, think all the time. You know what she means. The constant inner chatter that pervades our brains.
Sex is the perfect illustration of this phenomenon. The chatter that runs through our heads day in and day out sometimes doesn’t leave much room for sex. Men have it a little different. They think about it, say yea or nay, do it, then it’s done. Simple, right?
The demands of home, family, jobs, lovers all take their toll on women. Whether or not it’s instinctive, women take sex slower, it seems. We ease into it, start with some kissing, maybe a little massage, love talk.
Our theory is that women somehow know you first have to shush the constant chatter. Then you can get to the place where the outrageous orgasms live.
Getting away for a weekend or a couple days works too. No phone, no e-mail, nothing to interrupt the romance of being alone with your lover.
Last month we kept our promise to celebrate and went to a wildlife refuge to watch tens of thousands of migrating snow geese and greater sandhill cranes before they headed to the Arctic and northern interior U.S., respectively, for the summer.
Shush the chatter. Talk to your lover. Celebrate sex.
