Valentine’s Day Romance

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

What are you planning this Valentine’s Day?

We’re thinking romance. Romantic, cozy dinner, followed by romantic, cozy evening staying in and watching some sexy porn. Why not? It’s the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day that we know.

And just in time for Valentine’s Day, a new Crash Pad DVD  from Shine Louise Houston.

The Crash Pad Series Volume 6 has been well worth the wait.

This latest hot potato that will make any dyke we know squirm for more.

Highly recommended, the Crash Pad Series Volume 6 will make the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your sweetheart. Complimentary gift-wrap and gift cards make is super-easy, too.

Or treat yourself. You deserve something wonderfully sexy too.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Till next time, yours in good love and sex,

Nan & Christi

In Memoriam

Friday, January 14th, 2011

We remember two people who died this past week.

Margaret Whiting, whose voice was honey to our ears, made us long for evenings in Vermont. We’ll always have her in our music collection. We honor her here.

Listen to the NPR tribute to Margaret Whiting.

You may not know artist Kieran McGonnell.

He was our friend. An Irishman from Ireland, he moved to New York where he met his lover of many, many years, Gregg Driben. Together they really worked to get Kieran’s paintings out there. Kieran died last Tuesday.

Here’s a YouTube video that shows a lot of Kieran’s art:
Artist of the Month – Kieran McGonnell (Vincent and Andy)

Here’s his Facebook page: Kieran McGonnell Fine Art.

We tip our hats to him.

Happy New Year

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

With 2010 at an end, we want to say thank you for being Fatale’s friend and advocate. Believing in alternative sexual images and sexy porn films still takes guts, even when everything seems open and nobody hides anything anymore. We believe in you too.

This year, 2011, looms large, and according to all prognostications, it’ll be a better year than the last couple years. We’ll see, but the economy does seem a little better than before, and hearts a little lighter.

As a thank-you, we’ve extended the free shipping through January 15, 2011. Enjoy! Treat yourself!

We hope your holidays have been good ones.

Happy New Year!

Yours in good love and sex,

Nan & Christi

Merry Christmas!

Friday, December 24th, 2010

Wishing you a safe, happy Christmas, with lots of love and romance for this holiday.

We’re staying in, cooking, having our friend Donald over and building a cozy fire.

Merry Christmas!

Victory – Obama Signs Repeal

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

For members of the military who have, in essence, remained in the closet for the last decade plus, today is a new day. President Barack Obama signed the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” repeal. No longer will openly gay men and lesbians be barred from serving in the U.S. military.

There will no separate showers or other facilities. As we listened to the news this morning, the notion of separate showers called up one image in particular, that of desegregation of the U.S. military in 1948. There will be no benefits for partners of gays and lesbians–and gay marriages will not be acknowledged under this repeal. Still, it’s a start.

Kudos to the U.S. Congress and President Obama for moving the military forward into the 21st century.

Stormé DeLarverie News

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Our friends in New York keep us up on what’s happening in Chelsea, and especially what’s happening with the Stonewall veteran and our friend Stormé.

Best known for her role in the 1969 Stonewall Riots, Stormé worked as a male impersonator and performed with the Jewel Box Revue at the Apollo Theater and many other legendary venues.

Nan still has the framed photo of Stormé in her heyday, which Stormé gave her many years ago, on her dresser.

A Toast to Stormé DeLarverie” offered some good news about Stormé—she has been moved to a different nursing home in Brooklyn, CABS Nursing Home, where a friend of hers lives. It’s “a much nicer facility,” Ed Hamilton writes in this Chelsea Hotel blog posting. Good!

There was a benefit for Stormé that took place the Sunday before Thanksgiving at Henrietta Hudson’s in the West Village. We remember when Stormé was Henrietta Hudson’s bouncer, but more than that, she became our friend when Christi and Nan lived in Chelsea on 20th Street.

Our friend Kate wrote an e-mail update about the afternoon at Henrietta’s:

The benefit was a huge success! The place was totally jammed and jumping and spilling onto the street. Stormé was there, overlooking the crowd, on a slightly elevated platform, in her wheelchair, receiving well-wishers. I was finally able to get up to her and we had a brief conversation, although it was hard to hear her over the din.  There were balloons floating about and lots of elbow-to-elbow dancing to quite loud music. A good time was had by all and it was a wonderful tribute to Stormé.”

Thanks, Kate!

Fatale Recommends: The Scavenger

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Katrina Fox is the amazing editor-in-chief of the online magazine The Scavenger. Each month, she cooks up a brew of articles—about sexual health, sexual life, social justice, the media, feminism and pop culture, “gender diversity” and much, much more. We admire Katrina’s tireless devotion to The Scavenger, a damned good monthly read.

Here are some offerings from the November issue, and just so you know, the monthly issues tend to arrive mid-month:

In defence of stripping and sex work,” an interview with Zahra Stardust by Katrina Fox

Addressing racism and classism in animal rights activism” by Stephanie Lai

Am I genderqueer?” by Tiara the Merchgirl

Snip from this last piece: “My question(s) stem from this: I don’t feel like I can neatly relate to masculinity or femininity (and also butch or femme) as contemporary Western culture, or even Malaysian/Bengali culture, defines them.”

Food for thought and worth reading.

Full Load queer DVDSpeaking of which, one of the first genderqueer titles Fatale put out was Full Load: Scenes from ssspread.com.

We called it an “FTM and lesbian sex video.” It is still one of the best for its explicit views of genderqueers, thanks to the superb camerawork of Barbara DeGenevieve.

Celebration and Letdown

Friday, November 5th, 2010

What a week. First we were absolutely thrilled to see the San Francisco Giants win the World Series over the Texas Rangers. And the parade on Wednesday! That feeling of elation everywhere.

The San Jose Mercury News called it “a party for the ages.” We couldn’t agree more.

Did the parade take the edge off Election Day results this week? Perhaps.

President Obama’s picture on the front page of yesterday’s New York Times was rather shocking, his “shellacking” notwithstanding.

We recommend an article by Timothy Egan, also published in the Times’ Web site, “How Obama Saved Capitalism and Lost the Midterms.”

Snip: “For no matter your view of President Obama, he effectively saved capitalism. And for that, he paid a terrible political price.”

On a completely other note, we received an e-mail from a reader who asked about Suzy Suburbanite. We’ve linked to Suzy’s main site for a long time and didn’t realize she hadn’t been too active. We found “Suzy’s Travel Blog” but there hasn’t been a posting for years. Hmm.

Anybody know where Suzy has gone? Is she okay? Let us know, and we’ll update you next time.

Sleeping with Fishes

Friday, October 15th, 2010

We watched half-aghast, half-laughing earlier this week as Carl Paladino, the Upstate New York Republican nominee for governor, stumbled his way through bad-mouthing gays and lesbians in front of some Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn.

Oh, where was Mel Brooks when we needed him? Or, for that matter, David Sedaris?

In case you missed it, here’s the YouTube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKL9TRaePww

In case you missed it and don’t feel like watching a Carl Paladino YouTube clip, here’s one of the choicest lines:

–“I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family, and I don’t want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option — it isn’t.”

Last we heard, and please correct us if we’re wrong, Paladino doesn’t believe queers should get married and raise a family. Hmm.

Last we heard, homosexuality wasn’t an “option.” You are or you’re not. Or maybe you’re somewhere in between, a bisexual, a pansexual or similar. But you don’t sit down and say, “Gee, I think I’ll be a homosexual.”

Hard because we’d just read about a Bronx gang’s torture of a drag queen and two teenagers for being gay.

Hard because Tyler Clementi had just jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge after his same-sex date night was broadcast over the Internet by his Rutgers roommate.

Just hard.

Then Paladino apologized. Public relations people will tell you that apologies, if not handled correctly, can actually be worse than the original sin.

One of Christi’s Upstate New York relatives wrote on Facebook, “Yeah, and when he says he’s going to look out for the well-being of all New Yorkers, how can he be believed if [to him] some of that population does not live a valid lifestyle.

“This guy [will] have the LGBT community sleeping with the fishes.”

Gurgle, gurgle.

Till next time, yours in good love and sex,

Back to School

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

September already, and the 9/11anniversary has passed, albeit with protests on the street regarding the Muslim mosque that is slated to go into the old Burlington Coat Factory two blocks from ground zero. Christi has been on the East Coast for a couple weeks, closer to the fray.

The Pope has reiterated the Catholic Church’s opposition to gay marriage…so what else is new, right?

Watching all the Catholic school kids headed off to school in their uniforms after Labor Day, we were inspired to get out Afterschool Special, the knock-‘em-dead amateur porn flick by “Miss Hussy.” She gathered a posse of her college dyke friends and shot the whole thing.

What a party! Makes us long for school again, with all those delicious bodies ripe for the taking.

If you haven’t seen it lately, we highly recommend this lesbian classic.
